Equine Consumer Reports: Fiebings Saddle Soap
As far as economical bar/solid soaps go, Fiebings Saddle Soap was a very good performer. It quickly dissolved sweat and dirt from leather, with suds sinking into the stitch lines and forcing the grime to the surface for efficient removal. The application is straight-forward, but we recommend taking a damp cloth over equipment to be cleaned beforehand and buffing after to prevent excess cleaner from streaking and eventually dulling the leather.
The end result is a very rewarding clean with a soft, warm glow. For typical leathers this is an excellent cleaner, but for severely dehydrated items we recommend an alternate cleaner followed by a conditioner.
The pricing of Fiebings Saddle Soap means just about anyone can afford it and enjoy well maintained tack. It is suitable for the recreational rider who simply wants to preserve their equipment, all the way to the elite equestrian who demands a cleaner that can leave leather at its best.
This product is suitable for most leathers, but we would not use on glove-soft leathers or suede. If you need a cleaner who can handle the abuse of caked on dirt and grime, Fiebings Saddle Soap is a wise choice.
