Horse Tales

Hearing countless heart-warming stories affirming the horse-human relationship sparked the idea to highlight some of the best horse tales on our website. These are tales of how horses have helped people overcome grave illness, how they have escaped our grasp, yet somehow always come back to us, and how they strengthen our lives and form the core of who we are. If you have a horse story that you would like to have featured on our site, please email them us with your name and a picture (if available) of the horse you are highlighting.

Fictional Stories

A Second Chance

Non-Fictional Stories

Because of Love
"It is said that the eyes are the gateway to the soul. When I looked into Love’s big, soft, brown eyes, the sense of understanding and appreciation, the sense of her soul, was incredible. She was always cooperative unless we overstepped our bounds. She’d quickly, but gently, put us back in our place..."

Life's Little Miracles

Paying It Forward

Lessons of the First Paso

"Not wanting to ride alone, I encouraged my mother to purchase another horse for us to ride together on her ranch. She told me that if she did, she was getting something gaited, preferably a Paso Fino. Mom had never ridden one, but had seen one being ridden, and was enamored already."

Cinch Magazine- Horse of the MonthHorse: Opal
Owned By: Shyrl

Their Story:
At the ripe old age of 46 and riding less than two years, I purchased my first horse on Labor Day, 2007.  With us both being relatively green and with the help of a trainer, Opal and I have come far together.  At first she had horrible ground manners and was head shy.  After much research on techniques, within a month Opal’s ground manners had greatly improved and within six months I had her falling asleep on my shoulders as I massaged her face and ears.

From day one Opal has taken exceptional care of me and has been very patient as I improve in my riding.  When I am feeling like a teenager and try do something stupid, such as sitting cross leg in the saddle at the trot while going over ground poles, she will let me know with a look and her ears back that this is not a good idea, do it anyway, then stand next to me as I am lying on the ground with her face in mine reminding me she told me so.

I suffer from depression and am on medication, and while our story may not be exceptional, my blossoming relationship with Opal has provided me with a level of courage, happiness, joy, and fulfillment I never thought possible. Enough so that if I am getting moody, all my family has to do is tell me to go see Opal.
