Equine Consumer Reports: Leather New Liquid Glycerine

We found Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap to require a little extra cleaning as it doesn’t lift dirt from leather pores the same as some other cleaners we tested, however we did like how it performed otherwise.

This cleaner leaves leather suppler and looking and feeling brilliant. Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap lathers very nicely and gives leather a beautiful polish. We found it ideal for the avid competitor that wants to make an impression in the show ring. However, results were not long lasting and regular cleanings were required to maintain its shine.

We found Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap to hold its own against other saddle soaps but not necessarily outrank other liquid glycerine saddle soaps that we tested. After application, we found leather to have renewed colour and to – well – look new.

Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap is good for black or brown leather. Some of our testers liked it best on brown leather. Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap can darken some leathers, however, and caution should be taken when applying. In no circumstance though did we find it to decrease the appeal of the leather when it darkened it and if the cleaner ran causing an incredibly dark blotch we found that the leather returned to its original colour within a day’s time.

We do not recommend spraying Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap directly onto the leather as directed on the bottle. We found this increases the risk of splotching and would recommend evenly applying with a sponge.

If your goal is to preserve or heal worn out leather, Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap may not be your best choice. To help preserve the longevity of the leather’s original colour, we recommend following Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap with their Leather New Balsam once a month.

When stored at cold temperatures, Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap became murky and thickened, which we didn’t notice with other cleaners, however this should not harm the product and it will return to its original state once warmed and shaken.

Not the most economical choice of tested cleaners for recreational or non-competitive riders where the saddle’s “looks” aren’t a concern and may not be the best cleaner for weekly use. But for use as a shine-enhancer before a show, Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap is one of the best choices, being easy to use and a fair price.
